A Triumphant Return to Triathlon with Sika Henry

Sika Henry recently accomplished a huge goal: she became the first U.S. Black female professional triathlete in history. Sika set this goal 6 years ago and was aiming to achieve it in 2019. But nothing could have prepared her for the bike accident she experienced in that year during a race in Texas. Sika isn’t one to let any obstacle stand in her way and she trained hard to come back stronger than ever. Now, she uses the experience of her accident and the success of getting her pro card to talk to youth, particularly Black Americans, about getting involved in triathlon.

Amazing Americans - Sika Henry

She was one of America's most exciting and charismatic young triathletes, until she suffered a near fatal accident during a race.

Quick Brown Foxes - Sika Henry

Sika Henry was very patient with me as she explained triathlon and the many setbacks she’s faced on her current path in pursuit of her pro card. When she succeeds, she’ll be the first ever African-American woman pro triathlete. PRETTY FREAKING COOL.

PROFESSIONAL TRIATHLETE

“I hit a severe low. I went through a bout of depression, actually. I felt lost, in some ways. I had this dream and this goal, and I was so focused, and then I achieved it…and then it was like I didn’t have anything.”

Speak Your Goals Into Existence

Sika Henry is proof that we can speak our goals into existence. If there’s anyone who exemplifies persistence and determination, it’s Sika. After years of training, a serious bike, crash, and even a pandemic, in May 2021 Sika became the first U.S. Black Female Professional Triathlete.

BREAKING NEW BARRIERS

Sika is an IRONMAN finisher in 2019 (Kona - 11:35), and 8-time 70.3, first in 2016. Sika has a degree in Economics at Tufts University, and in May of 2021, she became the first African American Female to gain her pro card in triathlon.
